Mirroring dell 24" monitor (2407WFP) with e1505 Inspiron

My e1505 can't go any higher than 1280x800. That's ok, but I bought the dell 24" monitor for the purpose of using it as the primary display. I was told I could do it if I bought the best graphics card they offered, so I did, but since the laptop has a different resolution, it won't mirror the monitor. I can only "extend" it as a second display. The option to "Use this device as the primary monitor" is grayed out in Display Settings. Is there a solution? I want to use the 24" as the primary display.

Thank you...

OK, I saw your other thread.

Can you confirm that the 2407 is able to display 1280x800? (not 1280x768) Are you able to display 1280x800 with a desktop computer?

This is not related to the power of the graphics card, but rather to compatibility between available resolutions in the monitor and the graphics card.

What make/model of graphics card is in your laptop?

I have the 256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory, for Inspiron 6400/E1505. I can view all resolutions on the 2407. But I don't want to keep it at the highest or almost highest resolution it allows. I also want to keep it as the primary monitor and not an extended monitor, but the option to make it the primary monitor is grayed out and can't be checked. Any solutions?

I see that you have also posted this under Portable/Video, which I was about to suggest.

I made a web search for this and I found a link that might help you:

Thank you. I don't have that option but there is a tab for the driver and in there there's a way to reverse the identities.
